Executive Vice President for Administrative Affairs
Robert Spear, director of Parking and Transportation Services,
has announced his decision to retire from Rutgers. His last
day will be January 13, 2005.
Under Bob's leadership for the past 10 years, the university's
parking and transportation
operations have improved significantly. The addition of articulated
buses, new bus routes, and various online services for students
and staff are hallmarks of Bob's leadership. He implemented
the first university realtime campus bus tracking system (Where
is my bus?) in the nation and the purchase of parking permits
online resulting in a higher level of service. Bob also was
instrumental in the
introduction of the New BrunsQuick Shuttle to help reduce
the number of cars on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses
and in the university's preparations for the Route 18 construction
and widening projects. Bob previously served as the assistant
director in parking and transportation and worked in various
capacities in the housing division and residence life.
Bob has done a great job establishing positive working relationships
with students, deans, administrators, staff, and local communities.
His leadership, loyalty to Rutgers, and tireless energy will
be missed.
A national search is under way to hire a new Director of Parking
and Transportation Services.
Please join me in thanking Bob for 21 years of outstanding
service to the Rutgers community and in wishing him well as
he prepares for retirement.
